We’re proud to introduce Laura, one of the Directors at HEC, based in Castleford and a proud member of The APC.
Laura has been an integral part of the HEC team for more than two decades, joining the business 22 years ago when she initially supported the team with general administrative tasks. Through hard work, dedication and a commitment to the business, Laura progressed to become Office Manager.
Ten years ago, Laura’s journey with HEC took another exciting step when she was approached by the company’s Directors and offered the opportunity to become a Shareholding Director – a position she has proudly held ever since.
From Two Drivers to a Growing Operation
When Laura first joined HEC, the business looked very different to the operation it is today.
HEC began with just two drivers and handwritten manifests. Over the past 22 years, Laura has witnessed first-hand the company’s remarkable growth and development, playing an important role along the way.
Her journey reflects not only her own progression within the business, but also the evolution of HEC and the strong team behind it.
Resilience Through Challenging Times
Like any successful business, HEC has experienced its share of challenges. One of the most difficult moments came when the team received a call that no business ever wants to receive – the office block was on fire.
Thankfully, thanks to the incredible efforts of the fire brigade, the fire was brought under control and the building itself was saved.
The incident meant the HEC team had to adapt quickly. For the following eight months, the team operated from porta cabins in the yard while the office underwent restoration.
Despite the disruption, the team continued to work together and keep the business moving forward.
Reflecting on the support received during this challenging period, Laura said:“Head Office were fantastic with the support they gave us.”

Laura’s story is a great example of the people and dedication behind HEC. From joining the company in an administrative role to becoming a Shareholding Director, her 22-year journey has closely followed the growth and development of the business itself.
It’s experiences like these – both the successes and the challenges – that demonstrate the resilience, commitment and teamwork that have helped HEC become the successful operation it is today.
